Reclaimed Solid Heart Pine FlooringOver four hundred years ago, the Southern Yellow Longleaf Pine grew in abundance in the Southern Colonies and soon became prized for its strength, verstility, stability and beauty. The dense heartwood center of this species, "Heart Pine," quickly became the colonists' flooring of choice. Original floorings milled from heart pine have lasted for hundreds of years and continue to grace old plantation homes from Savannah to Boston.
Heart Pine also became the structural backbone of early American architecture. These strong, long timbers yielded excellent decay resistant beams which were used as framing for our nation's factories and warehouses. These massive beams were aggressively harvested until the once abundant supply was nearly exhausted around the turn of the century.
Our Reclaimed Antique Heart Pine is re-milled from these old structures built predominantly prior to 1900. The old planks display a warm rich patina that adds grace and elegance to any interior. The superior physical properties of heart pine ensure its longevity for many generations.
