Heart Pine flooring at Scotland Neck Heart Pine includes high quality heart pine floors, antique heart pine flooring, tobacco barn wood flooring, millwork, moldings, and cabinets. When other boys asked for red wagons and toy guns, Hodge Kitchin just wanted to get his hands on his father's farming tools. This young boy enjoyed life on his family's dairy farm just outside of tiny Scotland Neck, North Carolina and his greatest joy was "growing, fixing or making things". In fact, at the age of 8, Hodge had already completed his first major project, a custom built three story tree house. Hodge especially loved woodworking. As he grew to manhood, his passion became more refined and his skills flourished. By the age of 26 he had built his own home and most of the furniture in it and soon became known as perhaps the best woodworker in Halifax County.
In 1989, Hodge founded Plantation Comfort which produced Adirondack chairs, hammocks, rockers, and tables made from Cypress. His prestigious clientele included L.L. Bean, Crate & Barrell, and Neiman Marcus. Hodge sold his interest in this company in 1992 so he could devote more time to his expanding farming operation.
Through his vast woodworking experience, Hodge became fascinated by the heartwood of the Southern Yellow Longleaf Pine. His passion for this magnificent specie fueled his desire to form a Heart Pine company that not only provided basic floorings, but that also offered custom architectural millwork. Hodge's dream attracted other craftsmen and heart pine lovers and Scotland Neck Heart Pine Inc. was established.
Currently Scotland Neck Heart Pine Inc. is providing floorings, stair parts, moldings, doors, mantels, and custom architectural millwork from Reclaimed Antique and Old Growth Heart Pine. Choices of American Cherry, Oak, Maple, Mahogany, Walnut, Hickory and Wormy Chestnut are also available.
